Cafe singing

Our singing group, Take Note Singers, sang in the café at the Royal NZ Police College last night for our usual Tuesday session.

Our leader, David Dell, is the Chaplain at the Police College hence the connection.

We sing and share supper together and provide music for the often bemused looking people who are still at work or on courses at the college.

I sometimes wonder what they make of us all singing with enthusiasm as a one off event at the end of each term.

My hope is that the happy vibes and pleasant sounds are uplifting to the people who train in the often stressful and traumatic field of policing.

Last night we sang a variety of Christmas songs and carols. Some are traditional, some very New Zealand, some well known, some sweet and new.

Next week, our final session for the year, sees us singing at a local Rest Home. We’ll present some music and include the residents and staff in some sing-a-long Christmas music.

The true spirit of Christmas at work and alive! I am glad all went well and would have loved to have heard you all perform. Did you happen to get a recording of the performance so you could share with the rest of us? I have never heard New Zealand style Christmas songs and would love to experience and hear it.

Thanks Anna. Sadly we have not been recorded. It is a community style choir so only a limited budget and limited resources. I will try and post the words of one of the NZ Christmas songs which may give you some idea. IF we get on u-tube one day I will post about that. We love to sing together and share some joy.

It’s so satisfying to sing in a choir, and it sounds as if you are bringing much pleasure to others. Our choir is getting ready for our end of year performance also, and will raise money for charity.

The only criteria for joining this group is that you want to sing, enjoy plenty of laughter and meet friendly people. People listening to our singing do seem to appreciate and enjoy it. The pieces we are doing for this Christmas are lovely. I hope your choir’s performance goes very well and lots of money is raised.
