“Every gun that is made, every warship launched, every rocket fired signifies, in the final sense, a theft from those who hunger and are not fed, those who are cold and are not clothed. This world in arms is not spending money alone. It is spending the sweat of its labourers, the genius of its scientists, the hopes of its children.”
From a speech in Washington in 1953, by President Dwight. D. Eisenhower 1890 -1969

Thanks Lyndsey. Very true and very thought provoking.
Nothing has changed since he said this back in 1953. We are slow learners on this matter.
Sad but true.
Very sad Judy. Very thought provoking. We can keep doing what we can in simple, ordinary ways.
A strong quote, and a beautiful sky. Thanks Lynley.
A wide blue sky seemed a nice contrast to the fact that not much has changed since 1953….
We are not just slow learners, we are no learners. We are not learning anything from past mistakes. I am not inclined to cynicism but it looks to me like we are aggressively ignoring genuine attempts at widespread peace. Perversely, it is easier to fight a war than to work towards finding ways to prevent it.
My apologies, Lynley, for the name fumble.
I like your thoughts on the quote. Lynley:-))
