Hmmm there are buds only today. I took this photo and one other of the bush on the 13th May 2013. I think the bush had a flurry of growth after the drought broke and my husband gave it a trim so it did not overhang a path and deck.
I love the pleats and “flutes” on the edges of the petals. I had not noticed those before. Macro opens new worlds:-)

It’s a lovely flower and bush. A real pleasure to have in a garden.
You are correct. We have several of them and as an added bonus they attract butterflies in the summer time.
I must tell mine that it is failing on the butterfly count. I will expect better from it next summer.
