Just a quick post to let you know that we have been experiencing some severe earthquakes since Friday. We live 30kms north west of Wellington city and have not felt many of the aftershocks BUT we have felt the large shakes.
The most recent 6.8 magnitude tremor was a very large one and we are understandably feeling on edge.
We have not found any damage in our home so far but we are definitely on alert and have checked our emergency supplies.

Thinking of you guys down there…
Thank you. It is a worrying time right now. I hope your Wellington folks are faring well too.
so far…
Ditto. The uncertainty is tricky now. Keep calm and carry on.
Thinking of you and all those in the centre of the country with much love.
Thanks Ruth. Your seismic experiences have been high in our minds since Friday. Not a lot of news from the top of the South Island yet so I hope they are OK.
Stay safe 😦
Thank you.
Rather yucky aren’t they! We had some breakages and left a bit shaky
Love Leanne
It has been full-on at times Leanne. Rescue Remedy has been in demand. Sorry to hear of your breakages. So far people seem to be safe which is the main thing.
How frightening. Hope that was it and things settle.
These big earthquakes certainly frighten us. I was looking at your photo that you said was skewed and thought that is how my world is feeling right now – skewed off balance by earthquakes. We hope things will settle but it may take a few days the experts are telling us:-(
So pleased to have your update. I have been wondering about you. It will be an unsettled night I am sure. Be safe as you can be.
Thanks. You are utterly accurate about last night being a restless one. We only felt a few of the aftershocks but our senses are on high alert so a noisy vehicle gets a lot more attention than it used to. You will be very aware of what we are going through but moreso.
Yes, and I am feeling quite anxious on your behalf which isn’t really very helpful. And, of course, wondering if more of our faults will be stirred to life again.
Hmmm I know what you mean. It was how I felt when Christchurch had its dreadful earthquakes. Having lived in Wellington for most of my life we have it well in our heads that we are the most vulnerable place in New Zealand for earthquakes.
Living 30kms northwest of Wellington City seems to be shielding us from the worst of the aftershocks so far.
Keep strong and hold on!
🙂
Thinking of you and hoping you and your fellow countrymen will stay safe.
Thank you. We are pleased that no one has been badly injured or killed to date. We live in the Shakey Isles.
I hope you are okay and everyone in Wellington!!! Please keep us up-to-date!!
Magic thoughts for safety for everyone!

Thank you. Do you get earthquakes in Colorado? I will post updates as I can. For now things are steady and calm. Long may that continue.
I’m so glad you are doing okay at this moment. We don’t have earthquakes here in my area of Colorado, although, we have had them triggered by the Coal Mines and the Gas and Oil People…I’m still sending Magic Thoughts to you for safety!
Linda
Your Magic seems to be working here so far today. Thank you!!There is talk here of fracking which will cause earth tremors near such sites – I doubt we need any more quaking earth in New Zealand.
Hope that you stay safe. We will be thinking about you.
Thank you for your kind thoughts. We are safe to date. Our house seems to withstand earthquakes well and the land it is built on seems very stable….we hope! Nature is a powerful force.
Stay safe!
Thank you. So far, so good!
