    I fondly remember a property in Birdwood Crescent, Auckland, which had a banksia tree. Whenever we walked by we remarked on how the dried flowers all looked like hedgehogs clinging to the tree. Perhaps this flower is a reminder of your orphan hedghog.

      Ha ha. I hadn’t thought of hedgehogs but I can see why you thought the cones looked like ‘hogs in a tree!
      The Tui are supping on these cones at the moment as well as Kowhai, Protea and drinking up a storm at my sugar water feeder.
