Tui cultivate a cross look! The first photo was a pair who sang and chuckled away at each for ages. Perhaps a little courting going on??? No aggression in that exchange but plenty of aggro in the second photo.
I wonder if the tongue waggling that was happening between the two on the fence was the Tui equivalent of a smile?? :-))
This morning when I went to top up the sugar water I got with a couple of feet of two in non-aggro “conversation” but my camera was inside :-(( Up so close I could hear also a purring sound at times coming from the birds. They are fascinating.
Many of the Tui are remarkably trusting. I can get within just over an arm’s length from some when they are at the feeder. Their range of song/notes/sounds is incredible.
they both look a bit cross really …

maybe you should tell them to smile next time… 🙂

Wonderful photos! Julie
Thank you Julie. Not many Tui in the garden at the moment. They are out in the flaxes I imagine.
Haha, love these, Lyn! 🙂
Aren’t they characters? I’ve missed the crowds!
How lovely to be able to get so close you can hear them ‘purring’! 🙂
