What great photos Lynley, and how interesting it is to see the wattle feathers growing — like an adolescent growing a beard! I notice the plumage looks quite grey, or is that just the photo?
Thanks Juliet. The birds were very obliging today. The wattles emerging is like a new beard! The harsh grey/white light today has made the plumage look grey. Young Tui are black with little colour as fledglings. So these birds are beginning to develop more adult tonings on their wings and tail. It is fun listening to them learn to sing!
lovely shot
Sometimes the young ones are very skittish but today they were hungry and did not mind me taking their photo.

But with all the rain we had yesterday, bids were few and far between in our garden. Glad you saw this baby beauty.
My garden soaked up that rain here and I suspect the weather changing drew the Tui in. Not so many visiting today!
