It seems that no one knows for absolute certainty whether both sexes sing.
I found this on a NZ Birds online website: “The sexes are alike; juveniles have similar colouring but the speckling on the breast is less distinct.
Voice: distinctive and attractive song comprising a wide range of notes, often repeated, from about May to November, but calling can occur throughout the year. Calling can commence before sunrise. Singing is thought to be by males advertising territorial ownership.”

Interesting information; thanks so much. I know with some of the NZ birds, such as the bellbird, it’s the female who sings.
One of my favourite birds, and his/her song one of my favourite bird-songs… utterly loveable, and sadly, they don’t live in the native bush where I now live….
A Thrush woke me this morning to herald a fine, warm day. It is sad that you don’t have them in your area. I have been trying to determine just where you are fortunate enough to live…..it does sound very, very pleasant.
