We are currently in Day 5 of rain 😦 and it has been very cold and at times the wind has roared about us.The Tui had ignored our trees up until today and they have been supping on and off all day. There has been more interest at the feeders today too. A wet cold winter/spring seems to have caused abundant flowering of any and all Kowhai trees. There is gold everywhere to brighten us in this bleak weather!
The rain has just started here in earnest. No kowhai or tui to brighten the day but I have put out a bird seed cone and the birds are loving it. Making an awful mess as well!
I just hope all this rain helps the areas where it is most needed. The birds need extra feed at the moment. The finches have been back looking for food here again with this inclement weather. The rain has washed away any mess!!!!
Thanks. I keep looking at your Monarch butterfly on blossom and in SUNSHINE! It looks very spring like! This tree is quite close to the house and I crept very slowly under the eaves so as not to get wet in the rain this morning. Zoom on almost full stretch helped.
A great illustration of spring in Aotearoa – ideal for the equinox.
Is that rain or nectar rain?

Yes, it would be good if the rain helps those still suffering from drought. If they don’t get rain now I don’t know how they will cope this summer.
great photos – our tuis never get that close
